Why the Numbers System is High Risk

Most mathematical minds, scientific experts and theorists insist that in a game of chance such as Roulette there is no possible way of using strategy to win. The wheel spins and gravity determines the outcome. They do agree that a player might wager on some statistical averages and find a theoretically probable outcome of winnings or losses, but no one has committed anything to paper.

Thousands of experienced Roulette players however have their own strategies and theories about winning at the wheel. Some advocate a “double or nothing” tactic of one kind or another, others say that a “biased wheel” can be located and used for great profit, and some like to stick with lucky numbers such as birthdays, anniversaries, sports player’s jersey numbers, or seventeen – which is the most frequently played number in casinos, and which happens to be the same figure that James Bond chooses in all of his popular films and books.

Whatever the system, most people play Roulette because it is such a fun and enjoyable game, and because some of the payouts are remarkably rewarding, for example either of the zeroes on the wheel reward the player with a thirty five to one reward. Place a single dollar on the double zero and walk away with thirty four dollars in profit should it be spun.

The rules of the game are extremely simple, and many people enjoy devising strategies of their own to liven up the play. One of the most common is the “numbers system” and it actually is a very risky way of betting money because it allows for little control over the amounts to be wagered.

Basically a player starts with their table’s minimum wager, for this example let’s say it is five dollars. The player then divides the number into two figures, so for this example let’s say one and four. If the player wins they take the profit and start again, perhaps breaking it into two and three. If the player loses they then add the five to the series of numbers, meaning one, four and five as the series. The player then takes the first and third numbers to figure their next wager, which for this example is six dollars. A win at this point would allow the player to eliminate the five and the one from the series, leaving a new wager of four dollars. A win at the four dollar wager means the initial wager of five dollars has been earned.

While this is all very straightforward, it doesn’t often work out as cleanly as this. For example, if the player lost on the third spin they would need to add the six to their series of numbers, which means one, four, five, six in the line up and a new wager of seven dollars. If this too is a loss the player increases the wager to eight dollars and up.

The numbers system of play can lose increasingly large wagers for the player and prevent them from controlling bid amounts, which makes it a less efficient and perhaps even a less fun system of enjoying Roulette.
